Biographical Information
Paul Linnes, Basso Cantante, has been critically acclaimed as a "commanding presence" with a voice that is "remarkable for the clarity and vigor of its low range." A frequent principal artist in many operas, he has also appeared as soloist in such concert works as The Creation, Beethoven’s Mass in C and Choral Fantasia, J. S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Handel’s Messiah and Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass.
Recognition and awards include Northwest Regional and Western Regional Finalist in the 1994/95 and 1993/94 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions respectively, a 1995 winner of the Performing Arts Festival of the Eastside’s annual competition, National Scholarship Winner in the 1993 Bel Canto Foundation National Opera Auditions and a 1992/93 and 1993/94 Finalist in the San Francisco Opera Center Auditions.
Mr. Linnes received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music from California State University, Hayward and his Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Southern California and has participated in the Young Artist Program at Utah Festival Opera. Mr. Linnes is a former student of famed Metropolitan Opera basso, Giorgio Tozzi.
